Pink Beach and Its Unique Natural Phenomenon

Among the hundreds of tropical beaches in Indonesia, Pink Beach in the Komodo National Park stands out with a charm that's nearly impossible to find elsewhere. The sand is naturally pink, a result of white sand mixing with crushed red shells of foraminifera, a microscopic marine organism. From a distance, the gradient of pink sand and the turquoise-blue Flores Sea creates a landscape that looks like a living painting.

Many travelers depart from Labuan Bajo by speedboat or phinisi to stop by this beach. Under the bright tropical sun, the pink hue becomes even more vivid, contrasting beautifully with the deep blue sky. No wonder Pink Beach is often featured as one of Indonesia’s most iconic travel postcards.

Beyond its stunning shoreline, the underwater world of Pink Beach is home to vibrant coral reefs and a variety of tropical marine species. Snorkeling here is full of delightful surprises from sea turtles and clownfish to colorful corals. That’s why it’s considered one of the best snorkeling spots in Komodo National Park.

For travelers who enjoy light trekking, there’s a small hill beside the beach that takes only a few minutes to climb. From the top, the view of Pink Beach becomes even more breathtaking  with its curved shoreline and the vast Flores Sea stretching into the horizon. This panorama has led many to believe that Pink Beach is more than just a beach, it’s a natural wonder and a priceless gift to the world.
